The United States Mint issued Susan B. Anthony one dollar coins from 1979 through 1981 and then again in 1999. Although you do not find them in circulation very often, they are quite common and inexpensive. However, there are a few coins that are worth more than your common Susan B. Anthony one dollar coin. The history of the Susan B. Anthony dollar, also known as 1979 one-dollar coin, has plenty of ups and downs, as does its demand within U.S. Coin collecting. Although it was not valued at the beginning by collectors or the public that were supposed to use it, with time it has become a piece that cannot be missing in any modern coin collection. Anthony was the first woman to be honored by having her likeness appear on a circulating United States coin. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed the Susan B. Anthony Dollar Coin Act into law (Public Law 95-447). This law amended the Coinage Act of 1965, changing the size, weight, and design of the one-dollar coin.

What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.):
One major variety of the 1979 P Susan B. Anthony (SBA) Dollar features a wide rim on the obverse of the coin. The 11-sided rim is slightly thicker which results in less spacing between the 1979 date and the rim. This is sometimes known as the 'near date' variety as the date is closer to the rim.
